Novato is the perfect starting point to visit Muir Woods. The amazing California redwoods of this famous forest are just a short trip from the city and make a memorable excursion before returning to look at your photographs in the relaxing surrounds of one of our restaurants.

Muir Woods National Monument was established on January 9, 1908 when President Roosevelt signed legislation to protect an old-growth coast redwood forest from destruction.

The trees’ ages range from 400 to 800 years and are up to 250 feet tall. There are numerous trails which take you between the redwood trees and past California big leaf maples, tan oaks, and Douglas fir. Several bridges cross Redwood Creek, which flows through the park year-round. Wildlife is everywhere including the endangered coho salmon fingerlings, Pacific wren, woodpeckers, owls, deer, chipmunks, skunks, river otters, squirrels and much more.

For more information about Muir Woods, please visit the National Parks Service.
